BASIC SKIPPER SAIL

"The goal is not to sail the boat, but rather help the boat sail herself."

JOHN ROUSMANIERE - AMERICAN AUTHORWRITER AND SAILOR

YOUR TRAINING PROCESS

1. THEORY DEVELOPMENT - 2. ON THE WATER TRAINING - 3. CERTIFICATION

The first step in getting you to your sailing goals is the Theory Development Phase.  During this component you will complete the online training with either NauticEd or ISPA to prepare for your on-the-water training experience.  During this phase you will also have access to exclusive Latitude Sailing training materials as well as video conferencing to assist you through the learning process.

Your on-the-water component will have two stages that will be integrated during your time on the water;  a training segment and an evaluation component that will ultimately result in your certification.

During the training stage you will have the opportunity to apply the theory that you have learned and put it into practice.   With the private/couple training format with Latitude Sailing, you will have maximum time to practice and develop your skills.

By the end of your on-the-water time, your ability to demonstrate competency will be evaluated and certification will be achieved when you can demonstrate competency of all the required skills.

THEORY DEVELOPMENT COMPONENT:  NAUTICED OR ISPA

NAUTICED SKIPPER LARGE KEELBOAT

A sailboat is floating on a lake next to a sign that says competent crew sail

The NauticEd Skipper Large Keelboat Online Bundle prepares you to learn how to sail large keelboats (between 26-56 feet in length), combining the timeless knowledge and skills of sailing with modern comforts and capabilities necessary for extended journeys.  Whether you're a seasoned or beginner sailor, the Skipper Large Keelboat online course bundle provides what you need to become a competent large keelboat sailor - including added emphasis on large sailboat systems, docking, and maneuvering under power.

Skipper Large Keelboat Online Course (20 hours):  This online course offers a comprehensive curriculum for beginner to intermediate sailors skippering large keelboats between 26-56 feet in near-shore, moderate conditions.  Built for serious adult sailors, it gives you a clear, no-fluff approach for calm and repeatable control of your sailboat.  Sailing a large keelboat is an amazing experience:  more stability and safety, extra space and comfort for extended sails, greater range and capabilities, and stronger performance under sail.  With these advantages comes a responsibility to learn big-boat handling under sail and power, weather, docking, and the myroad of onboard systems that a large sailboat demands.

Maneuvering Under Power Online Course (4 hours):  Docking isn't guesswork - it's a skill you can master. Whether you're bringing a 40 foot monohull into a tight slip, handling a catamaran in crosswinds, or performing a Mediterranean mooring, this course gives you the structured techniques to maneuver under power with confidence.  This course blends proven methods with clear step-by-step animations so you'll understand not just what to do, but why it works.  Learn professional docking techniques for monohulls and catamarans including handling slips, end ties, crosswinds, and Med mooring with confidence, spring lines, prop walk, and advanced boat control maneuvers.

In addition, you will complete TWO FREE courses:

  • Basic Sail Trim Course - 2 hours
  • Navigation Rules for Sailboats - 3 hours
